The titles of these 1976 selfcomposed songs tell much of her poetic bent: "Help Yourself," "Love and Affection," "Join the Boys" and a deathly cynical "People." Reminiscent occasionally of Stephen Stills, Armatrading's guitar picking provides a gentle back up for the strong vocal plays.

Joan Armatrading recently performed at Oberlin College. Because of a gay activist meeting, this reviewer missed her. That will not happen again. Joan Armatrading is recommended for those who like eclecticism, acoustic rock and experimentation,

Cleveland has gained another rung on the ladder toward claiming title to Rock City U.S.A. with this fine album. The Michael Stanley Band will prove why.

One of Cleveland's finest rock groups, The Michael Stanley Band, was playing up a storm at The Agora Ballroom the weekend of October 22, 23 & 24, 1976. They were in the process of recording live tapes which could be hopefully produced into the group's first live album (David Bowie, also, incidentally, mixed the tapes of Iggy Pop's recent Agora concert for an upcoming live album).

With the recording expertise of Agency Recording Studio and the hand of producer Bill Szymczyk, the band now has one of the most alluring live albums that gay group can lay claim to.
